Spring Post 1. Music as Literature

Can we consider music to be literature? I say this is a definite yes. How do we define literature? Literature is writing or words that people read or hear that can evoke an emotion.  What is the difference between a novel, a poem, a rap, a song, an opera, and a symphony?  Their name. They all tell a story. They all use intricate syntax and dictation that could have many differnt meanings to many different people. The songs or writing might sound different or look different, but if you take away the syanza's or the way the song is sung and look just at it as words on paper, most songs will tell its own little short story. Which to me sounds like literature.

Lost, By the band avenged sevenfold.

Centuries pass and still the same. War in our blood, some things never change Fighting for land and personal gain Better your life, justify our pain The end is knocking, the end is knocking
We've all been lost for most of this life (Lost for most of this life) Everywhere we turn more hatred surrounds us And I know that most of us just ain’t right (Most of us just ain’t right) Following the wrong steps, being led by pride
How many lives will we take? How many hearts destined to break? Nowhere to run, can't escape Full of ourselves, tied to our fate The end is knocking, the end is knocking
We've all been lost for most of this life (Lost for most of this life) Everywhere we turn more hatred surrounds us And I know that most of us just ain’t right (Most of us just ain’t right) Following the wrong steps, being led by pride
With peace of mind so hard to find We're dwelling on the drastic signs Another way to numb our mind And as you close your eyes tonight and pray for a better life You’ll see it flying helplessly away

To me, this song talks about how human existance has always had blood on its hands either in war. Or just hatred through the streets and this song just really hits home to me because i can connect to it. I think this song has very strong meaning and should definitly be considered literature.

Critical acclaim by Avenged Sevenfold

Shhh be quiet, you might piss somebody off
Like me motherf***r, you've been at it for too long
While you feed off others insecurities
You stand in front of me and bite the hand that feeds

Self-righteousness is wearing thin
(Lies inside your head your bestfriend)
Heart bleeds but not for fellow men
(Broken glass, your fake reflection)

I've had enough it's time for something real
Don't respect the words you're speaking
Gone too far, acclaim

So how does it feel to know that someones kid in the heart of america
Has blood on their hands, fighting to defend your rights
So you can maintain the lifestyle that insults this family's existance
Well, where I'm from we have a special salute we aim high in the air
Towards all those pompous assholes who spend their days pointing fingers

F**k you!

Shh be quiet, you might piss somebody off
Like the heartbeat of this country when antagonized too long
I'll be damned if you count me in as part of your generous hypocrisy
Collecting enemies

Tabloid gossip queen worthless man
(There's no need for us to bury you)
Selfish agenda once again
(Right this way, you've dug your own grave)

I've had enough it's time for something real
Don't respect the words you're speaking
Gone too far, acclaim

All the way from the east to the west
We've got this high society looking down on this very foundation
Constantly reminding us that our actions are the cause of all their problems
Pointing the fingers in every direction
Blaming their own nation for who wins elections
They've never contributed a f**king thing to the country they love to criticize

Excuse the obscene, ignore the untrue
Depictions we see, try and get through
Admitting mistakes can hurt
I'm not the last but I sure ain't the first

Shh be quiet, you might piss somebody off

(Self-righteousness is wearing thin)
Lies inside your head your bestfriend
(Heart bleeds but not for fellow man)
Broken glass, your fake reflection

I've had enough it's time for something real
I don't respect these words you speak
Gone too far, acclaim

Okay so this song was written when Bush was president wich might help under stand it. But this song talks about how people criticize the government for being in the war with Iraq and criticise the Bush administration. Yet the marines and people out there are defending the very rights that the people are using against them. and its kinda like a "Hey why don't you stop criticisng us because we're giving you freedom."

Literary analysis 3

The battle of the labyrinth
In the battle of the labyrinth Percy, annabeth, and Grover go into the labyrinth to find its creator before Luke's army does and attacks camp half blood from the inside. While they search the labyrinth  they come across the god Janus who makes them choose between two door one way will kill them the other will lead them to the creator. The god Hera comes to the rescue and makes Janus go away. Finally after days of searching the group finds the creator who agrees to let himself die and destroy his labyrinth, in the process half of Luke's army is destroyed but the evil Titan lord Kronos is finally brought back to the real world from Tartarus.

I think the characters are a little static in this story and not really growing any. In my opinion this book was a little boring but it was just leading up to the big finale

Literary analysis 2

The Titans Curse
In the titans curse Percy, Grover, annabeth, and Thalia find two new demigods named Bianca and nico de Anglo. The group gets a prophecy to save the goddess Artemis in San Francisco. While on their way to SF they end up running into Artemis's hunters also trying to save the goddess. On the way Bianca swears her alliance to the hunters and becomes immortal. In Hephaestus's junk yard Bianca is killed by a giant automaton. When in San fransisco the group finds that Luke's evil ship the princess andromeda is in San fransisco and has a whole army of monsters. The group led by Percy infiltrates the defenses and saves the goddess Artemis who then transports them to a near by airport to return home.
I think the theme of the novel is too never give up. Like when Bianca dies the group wants to return home but they keep going to save the goddess. The tone of the story is happy and exciting, you cannot out down this book. There is a lot of metaphors and smilies in this story.
After reading this story I believe that I definitely have met a person who is very dynamic not just changing from start to finish but from almost every other chapter he knows something new, acts a little older and more mature leading this group of kids

the big Q

so everyone is writing "What is the meaning of life?" and honesly, i could care less what the meaning is. It's my life and im giong to live it my way, now im not talking Yolo i mean i coulf care less the the meaning is. I have many questions but nothing that strikes me as 'The big One' yeah i wonder where will i be in life. How do i get the career i want with the classes im given at school. I also wonder about the books im reading or have red. Like Pirate Cinema by cory doctorow, i read the first couple chapters up to page like 55 and its pretty good actually definitly not the kind of book i would usually ready (harry potter, percyjackson, hungergames etc.) i wonder how many other books are out like that. idk i actually went home sick today and im really still not feeling good. so ima wrap it up with that. i really kinda improv'd on what i wrote from class today. idk i dont have any big Q's things change every hour so you never know :) ima go to bed. lol
