Lit circle group

So today me and Nick went to the orcutt library and ready for an hour. Cameron couldnt make it. But we got a lot of good stuff from our conversation.
here are just some of the topics that were brought up that connect to this book
1. inception. Yes that confusing movie that makes you think and ask the quesiton; Is he dead, or alive? in inception the whole point in the movie is too implant a false memory into the mind of someone else. a Basic idea or question. to make that person question things. Now back to the book. Clarisse implanted a fundamental basic question into Montags mind. Why? That one question, changes montag. With that one question he Starts to wonder and think for himself. Which in this book in these times, are not something you want to do. But one thing me and Nick absolutly loved, was a quote on page 58. it says "Not everyone born free and equal, as the Constitution says, but every everyone made equal."

The peeved pedestrian

This is definitellay a hard question. If bradbury wrote this book now. I would say he wrote this book because it's a possible future. The ideas in this book tie so well into our society, that i am speechless as to how the heck he knew all this was going to happen 50 years before it happened!? Like truely it doesnt say things plain and right out, but if you take the book one page at a time and then stop and think what somethings mean. It seriously just sounds like hes talking of the future in 15 years tops. Now, ill admit, i do not like this book. But i do really really do like the theme's and ideas that this book has in it. Me and Nick P. had a reading group and the orcutt library. It took us a complete hour to get from page 54, to page 70. And not because we are bad readers buecause thats not true. But because every page and a haf, to every two pages. We'd stop and reflect on it. This book truely is amazing. But why he wrote this book? i havent a clue. hopefully you (Dr. Preston) will enlighten us on why he wrote this.

I'm not a poet and Nick knows it! :P

So the title of this post is a little defferent from what my teacher orriginally intended, but i like this one much, MUCH better. Todays assignement was to write one single poem. As i sat for 20 minutes I had literally 3 sentences. Poetry is NOT my thing. Hopefully at the end of this i will be able to write a poem :) well see in a couple of days.

Theme for English 3

Am i the person my teachers think i am outside of school? Well, last year i would say no. I let my grades slip and other things get in the way oh my schooling. This semester, hopefully i can say yes, I would say i am a very smart and knowledgeable person. With some talents that not only teacher, but also most of my fellow students did not know. Like my passion for music, i have loved music since i started playing the drums when i was only 5 years old. yeah do the math 5, 17 now. wow 12 years of drumming. yeah only a handfull of other students know this and not a single teacher. Now back to english 3 and away from me personally. Can i be myself while i persue knowledge and find my place in this world? Sometimes heck yeah. other times.. Definitily not. I am a very talkative person (when im not being shy) and in my classes talking a lot would be bad for my understanding of the lesson. Other times i can definitly be myself as i enjoy said class and teachings, giving my perverbial two cents into the conversation and lesson. Any one has talents, some might not be as cool as others but everyone has their own talents to bring to a classroom and enrich the learning experience. People keep many things privet, I know i have my secrets. But what would socializing and making friends be without secrets to keep and to tell. And if i told you what i kept privet, well then it would'nt be privet anymore would it? And it is most definitily possible for someone to take ownership of his/her learning experience. Some will shy away and slack. Others will shine and stand out. But thats life, if you want something, get out there and get it! If not you will just be a small fish in a huge pond. Make the most of what you have. :)

Spring Post 1. Music as Literature

Can we consider music to be literature? I say this is a definite yes. How do we define literature? Literature is writing or words that people read or hear that can evoke an emotion.  What is the difference between a novel, a poem, a rap, a song, an opera, and a symphony?  Their name. They all tell a story. They all use intricate syntax and dictation that could have many differnt meanings to many different people. The songs or writing might sound different or look different, but if you take away the syanza's or the way the song is sung and look just at it as words on paper, most songs will tell its own little short story. Which to me sounds like literature.

Lost, By the band avenged sevenfold.

Centuries pass and still the same. War in our blood, some things never change Fighting for land and personal gain Better your life, justify our pain The end is knocking, the end is knocking
We've all been lost for most of this life (Lost for most of this life) Everywhere we turn more hatred surrounds us And I know that most of us just ain’t right (Most of us just ain’t right) Following the wrong steps, being led by pride
How many lives will we take? How many hearts destined to break? Nowhere to run, can't escape Full of ourselves, tied to our fate The end is knocking, the end is knocking
We've all been lost for most of this life (Lost for most of this life) Everywhere we turn more hatred surrounds us And I know that most of us just ain’t right (Most of us just ain’t right) Following the wrong steps, being led by pride
With peace of mind so hard to find We're dwelling on the drastic signs Another way to numb our mind And as you close your eyes tonight and pray for a better life You’ll see it flying helplessly away

To me, this song talks about how human existance has always had blood on its hands either in war. Or just hatred through the streets and this song just really hits home to me because i can connect to it. I think this song has very strong meaning and should definitly be considered literature.

Critical acclaim by Avenged Sevenfold

Shhh be quiet, you might piss somebody off
Like me motherf***r, you've been at it for too long
While you feed off others insecurities
You stand in front of me and bite the hand that feeds

Self-righteousness is wearing thin
(Lies inside your head your bestfriend)
Heart bleeds but not for fellow men
(Broken glass, your fake reflection)

I've had enough it's time for something real
Don't respect the words you're speaking
Gone too far, acclaim

So how does it feel to know that someones kid in the heart of america
Has blood on their hands, fighting to defend your rights
So you can maintain the lifestyle that insults this family's existance
Well, where I'm from we have a special salute we aim high in the air
Towards all those pompous assholes who spend their days pointing fingers

F**k you!

Shh be quiet, you might piss somebody off
Like the heartbeat of this country when antagonized too long
I'll be damned if you count me in as part of your generous hypocrisy
Collecting enemies

Tabloid gossip queen worthless man
(There's no need for us to bury you)
Selfish agenda once again
(Right this way, you've dug your own grave)

I've had enough it's time for something real
Don't respect the words you're speaking
Gone too far, acclaim

All the way from the east to the west
We've got this high society looking down on this very foundation
Constantly reminding us that our actions are the cause of all their problems
Pointing the fingers in every direction
Blaming their own nation for who wins elections
They've never contributed a f**king thing to the country they love to criticize

Excuse the obscene, ignore the untrue
Depictions we see, try and get through
Admitting mistakes can hurt
I'm not the last but I sure ain't the first

Shh be quiet, you might piss somebody off

(Self-righteousness is wearing thin)
Lies inside your head your bestfriend
(Heart bleeds but not for fellow man)
Broken glass, your fake reflection

I've had enough it's time for something real
I don't respect these words you speak
Gone too far, acclaim

Okay so this song was written when Bush was president wich might help under stand it. But this song talks about how people criticize the government for being in the war with Iraq and criticise the Bush administration. Yet the marines and people out there are defending the very rights that the people are using against them. and its kinda like a "Hey why don't you stop criticisng us because we're giving you freedom."
